Droughtless field install guide
Droughtless Sense. Field installation — probe & node.

Install in 8 steps

Bring: 2–3" soil auger (masonry bit or power auger for hard caliche) · bucket of water · landscape staples · small trenching spade · the node, probes, and 2× AA lithium batteries. Probe cables reach 1–2 m — plan the node location first.
Before you dig: locate irrigation laterals and drip tubing in the work area. Augering through a buried line is the most common install mistake.
  1. Pick the spot.

Node at mulch level, shaded if possible (north side of the trunk), within cable reach of the probe holes. Turf zone: one shallow probe. Tree: two probes inside the emitter/dripline zone.

  2. Auger the holes.

Turf: one hole to 10 cm. Tree: two holes, 20–30 cm apart — one to 15 cm, one to 45 cm. Keep the dug soil in the bucket; remove rocks.

  3. Mix the slurry.

Add water to the dug soil until it pours like thick batter. The slurry is what guarantees soil contact — an air gap against the blade reads as dry soil forever.

  4. Set the probe.

Pour slurry into the hole, push the probe to the bottom with the electrodes fully covered and the cable up. Top up with slurry, then firm the soil in layers. Never force a probe against rock.

  5. Route the cable.

Cut a 5 cm slit trench to the node, press the cable in, close it with your boot. Leave a loose coil (service loop) at the node end.

  1. Mount the node.

Staple both tabs so the box sits flat at mulch level. Feed each cable through its grommet and plug into the matching port — Port A = shallow, Port B = deep. Seal grommets with RTV once dressed.

  2. Power up.

Insert 2× AA lithium (never alkaline — they leak in heat). The LED blinks on each transmission. Close the lid; snug the screws evenly.

  3. Confirm and walk away.

Verify the node appears with both probes reporting. Readings drift for a few days while the backfill settles — that's normal. Trust the trend after the first full irrigation cycle.

Droughtless guía de instalación
Droughtless Sense.
